Stewardship lessons will consider a theology of “things,” looking at the Israelites under the ministry of Haggai. They will learn about generosity flowing from trust as well as giving in The Salvation Army, including “firing a cartridge” and Self-Denial/World Services. They will balance the teaching of provision and generosity with learning about what Jesus says about not worrying. Finally, they will learn about long obedience, identifying the disobedience of Jonah, and what it means to take up our cross and follow Jesus.

Featured Speaker: Captain Dustin Rowe

Forgiveness lessons begin by looking at Peter’s question on the subject and the parable of the unmerciful servant, helping corps cadets to learn what forgiveness is and is not. They will learn about Joel Mbambo Matunjwa’s story of forgiveness and further explore what Jesus taught as they identify areas they need to forgive in their own lives. Corps cadets will learn about Corrie ten Boom’s story of forgiving a former guard as they explore what reconciliation means. Through the story of the 2006 Amish shooting in Pennsylvania, corps cadets will look at forgiving hard things. They will define repentance and learn stages, steps, and tools for forgiveness.

Featured Speaker: Elyse Dobney

Faith lessons begin by exploring authentic faith as something that is firsthand and personal, placed in the Person of Jesus. Corps cadets will learn about how faith and works go together and the role of doubt in the faith journey. They will learn about the stories of two Salvation Army officers who lived out their faith under difficult circumstances: Commissioner Herbert Lord and Lt.-Colonel Kwon Kyung-Chan. In contrast, they will learn about Simon the sorcerer who wanted the benefits of faith without the experience of faith. Learning about Abraham, corps cadets will explore what it means to live out obedient faith. Finally, they will compare authenticity and hypocrisy, considering the difference between knowing what the Bible says and living it out.

Featured Speaker: Captain Leslie Knaggs

Service lessons begin by looking at putting our faith in action as they identify God’s heart for the vulnerable and Jesus’s humility as our standards for service. They will learn about the Cab Horse Charter and three Salvationists who served in unique ways: Frederick Booth-Tucker, Commissioner Lalkiamlova, and George Scott Railton. They will discover the paradox of servant leadership in God’s upside-down Kingdom values as they learn about Abraham Lincoln’s leadership as well as practical ways to serve others humbly. Finally, as they learn about Jesus’s easy yoke and light burden, they will explore service as an everyday discipline.

Featured Speaker: Captain Kelly Hanton
