Grace lessons begin with the biblical concept of God’s grace, seeing how it is a part of His activity as well as His character. They will be introduced to early Salvationists who demonstrated grace under fire, including the Donut Girls of WWI, the Slum Sisters, and James and Alice Barker. Corps cadets will learn the history behind the hymn “Amazing Grace,” learning that truth and grace go hand-in-hand. And they will discuss how grace is something we live out, not just something we live in, exploring “My grace is sufficient for you” means.

Featured Speaker: Captain Nathan Bridges

Mercy lessons begin with an understanding of what mercy is through the stories of Joseph and the prodigal son. Through learning about the League of Mercy and Community Care Ministries, as well as the ministry of Chikankata Hospital in Zambia, corps cadets will learn that mercy ministry is about really seeing people. They will explore the role of mercy in leadership through the life and work of Mother Teresa. Touching on abortion and euthanasia, corps cadets will learn about the sanctity of human life and how to show mercy to people in very real and difficult circumstances.

Featured Speaker: Captain Kelsey Bridges

Justification lessons begin with the biblical concept of justification as a legal explanation of our status before God. They will learn about humankind’s inclination to sin, which breaks relationships; justification repairs them. Corps cadets will be taught how to prepare and present a sermon. And they will learn that, although we are justified as a one-time process, we have a choice of how we will live after being justified, exploring regeneration and sanctification.

Featured Speaker: Captain Oziel Urbaez

Self-Esteem lessons begin with the foundational truth that we are made in the image of God. As they are introduced to several Salvationists who worked with the homeless, prostituted, and sick, corps cadets will learn that we are called to see the image of God in others as well as ourselves. In exploring the lives of Moses and Paul, they will learn about pride and humility as well as how to identify behavioral markers of depression in others. Finally, they will learn how the enemy’s agenda is different from God’s agenda and how to identify emotional markers of depression in themselves and how to seek help.
